Cottonwood Creek Processed Based Restoration

The project goal is to support post -fire recovery in maintaining and improving native fish and aquatic habitat through processed based restoration strategies. Two phases of Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) and Post Assisted Log Structures (PALS) have been constructed at various sites within Cottonwood Creek to mitigate the high velocity stream flows, retain sediment, trap gravel above the structures, create pools, support water quality, and increase the connection with floodplain vegetation while maintaining the riparian plant community. BDAs have enticed beavers to expand their territory along the three-mile reach.
