Hadley Creek Riparian Enhancement

Hadley Creek is a year-round non-fish bearing creek that begins up high on Winter Rim and runs the canyon through the Withers Ranch where it dissipates into the meadow just above Summer Lake. As the creek extrudes out of the canyon drainage it has carved its way along the foothills where grasses, willow, and other shrubs line its edge. The project goal was to improve riparian function along the creek through implementing two hardened creek crossings and 3300 ft of riparian fence on the north and west side of Hadley Creek. The project met and exceeded this goal as the landowner contributed a livestock water gap and approximately another 3300 ft of riparian fence while contouring streambanks for stability. The implementation of each project element will reduce sedimentation downstream, catch sediment and support existing riparian vegetation, stabilize the banks, and improve water quality and hydrologic functions. The project was funded through Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board Small Grant Program and Landowner In-kind.
